Christian Science
“The vital part, the heart and soul of Christian Science, is Love.”
Christian Science is a Bible-based religion based upon the teachings of Christ Jesus. Those who study Christian Science strive to follow his example of perfect love for God and man in every detail of their lives.
Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer of Christian Science and founder of the Christian Science church, was a deep student of the Bible throughout her life. Even as a little girl, she turned to God in prayer and these prayers brought healing to her family and friends. In 1866, she experienced a life-threatening injury. She was healed when she opened her Bible to an account of one of Jesus’ healings and glimpsed the power of God to heal. Inspired by this healing, she spent three years studying the Bible, searching for the spiritual law behind all true healing. From that study came her primary work, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
Since the publication of her book, thousands have been healed and regenerated through consecrated study of the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. These two books are the dual and impersonal Pastor of the Christian Science church, described in the Church Manual as, “a church designed to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing.” (Church Manual 17:8-13)
Every healing is a living proof of God’s impartial and universal love for all of His children, and each one ripples out to help and to heal all mankind. Mrs. Eddy wrote, “To live so as to keep human consciousness in constant relation with the divine, the spiritual, and the eternal, is to individualize infinite power; and this is Christian Science.” (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany 160:5-8)
