Class Instruction
Primary Class instruction is a two-week course that teaches the basic beliefs of Christian Science and helps the students learn how to pray effectively for themselves and others. It is based on the chapter called “Recapitulation” in Mary Baker Eddy’s book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. There are twelve days of class, and during these days the students should be completely free of other obligations, as they will want to have plenty of time for quiet prayer and deep study of “Recapitulation” and other selections from the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy.
The goal of our class is to deepen our love for Christian Science and to enable us to be active and alert Christian healers – to help us to follow Jesus’ instruction to us all: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matt 5:16)
The successful completion of Primary Class Instruction is the first requirement for the student to apply to be listed in The Christian Science Journal as a full-time Christian Science practitioner or Christian Science nurse.
After completing the class, students become members of an association with others who have taken class from the same teacher. Each association meets annually to provide for the students’ continuing spiritual growth, and to deepen our unity and love for one another.
Mary Baker Eddy instructed teachers to charge $100 for Class Instruction. However, students are welcome to give as much as they see fit. For more information about Christian Science and about Primary Class Instruction, please visit Christianscience.com.
